Tun Hussein bin Dato’ Onn (1922 – 1990) was born in Johor Bahru, Johor and died in Seaton Medical Center (San Francisco, USA) from a heart attack at the age of 68. Hussein Onn was buried in Makam Pahlawan (Heroes Mausoleum) near Masjid Negara, Kuala Lumpur. He was granted the title of Bapa Perpaduan (Father of Unity). Hussein Onn was Malaysia’s Third Prime Minister from 14 January 1976 to 16 July 1981 when he resigned after a heart bypass operation. He selected his successor, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, to succeed him. But the two broke with each other in 1987 and 1988 when Dr. Mahathir dismissed Malaysia’s highest ranking judge, arrested 106 people and detained them without trial. Mr. Mahathir’s actions resulted in formation of a rival party.
