Sze Ya Temple

Sze Ya Temple or Sin Sze Si Ya Temple also well known as [Yap Ah Loy]'s temple is one buildings or monuments that remind people of the trials and tribulations that Yap Ah Loy faced during the early history of Kuala Lumpur. Sze Ya Temple was built in honour of the famous Kapitan Shin Kap of Sungei Ujong (present day Seremban) whom Yap Ah Loy had worked for before and during the Sungei Ujong conflict in 1859. The site of the temple was chosen after a Chinese medium was consulted, a deity possessed and spoke through the medium, and promised prosperity and wealth if a temple were built on the here. Following feng shui principles, Sze Ya Temple is set at an angle to Jalan Tun HS Lee and Lebuh Pudu. As a result of this orientation, the Temple is tucked behind the shophouses and is visually obscured. The temple comprises a main hall and two side halls. In the main hall, the statues of Sin Sze Ya and Si Sze Ya are placed on the central altar. An altar to [Yap Ah Loy] with his photograph is on the left. Sze Ya Temple is located at 14A Lebuh Pudu, Kuala Lumpur 50050. Sze Ya Temple opens daily from 8am to 6pm.
