Muslims banned from practicing yoga

Malaysia's top Islamic body ruled against Muslims practicing yoga, saying it has elements of other religions that could corrupt Muslims. On Nov 25 Malaysia's leader assured Muslims they can perform yoga if they do not chant religious mantras, an apparent effort to assuage public anger over an Islamic body's ban of the ancient Indian exercise.
Anwar Ibrahim won by-election

Malaysia's opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim won a "landslide" victory in a by-election to return him to parliament, and said he was on track to oust a weakened government. The Malays National Organization (UMNO) and its allies had ruled since independence in 1957.
Mohd Saiful Sodomised

Dr Mahathir Quit Umno

Tun Doctor Mahathir Mohammad announced his resignation from UMNO to a cheering supporters in Kedah. Dr Mahathir, 82, said he will only come back when there is change in leadership. He said it resigned in protest against Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi's poor leadership. He was Malaysia's Prime Minister for 22 years before he handpicked Abdullah for the job. Mahathir joined UMNO at its inception in 1946. After the 13 May 1969 riots, Mahathir was sacked for his letter to first Prime Minister Abdul Rahman criticising the latter's handling the country's administration.

A Russian rocket blasted off from Kazakhstan's Baikonur launch pad, carrying 3 astronauts to the international space station. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, a Malaysian orthopedic surgeon and university lecturer from Kuala Lumpur, left Earth alongside Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and American astronaut Peggy Whitson. Shukor was selected from among 11,000 Malaysian candidates to fly aboard the ISS in a deal his government arranged with Russia as part of a $1 billion purchase of Russian fighter jets. Whitson will be the first woman to command the outpost.
20000 People Flee From Homes In Johor

Proton Sold MV Agusta For 1 Euro

Proton Holdings has sold it’s 58% stake in MV Agusta Spa to an Italian company Gevi Spa for a token sum of 1 Euro (RM4.48). Gevi Spa will assume MV Agusta’s debts and working capital requirements totalling 139.44 million euros. According to Proton, it was part of it’s non-core asset divesting exercise. Proton originally acquired MV Agusta Spa a year ago, on 7 July 2004, for 70 million Euro (RM364 million).
Young Woman Ask To Strip and Do Squats

Miss Hamisa Abu Hassan Saari, age 22. was arrested after police found some drugs on a friend. A police officer secretly recorded her with a cell phone as she was forced to strip and do squats, though she had no drugs. The recording got on the Internet and led to a special commission that denounced the police procedures and led to significant changes.

Anwar Ibrahim Freed

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim walked out a free man after the Federal Court in a 2-1 majority decision allows his appeal against the conviction for sodomy. While Judge Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohamad and Judge Tengku Baharudin Shah Tengku Mahmud ruled in Anwar's favour. Judge Datin Paduka Rahman Hussein was not in favor of Anwar. However, the all the judges noted "We find evidence to confirm that the appellants were involved in homosexual activities and we are more inclined to believe that the alleged incident at Tivoli Villa (Bangsar, KL) did happen." Anwar completed his term for corruption after his sentence was being reduced for good behaviour.
